About the School
|
The Nursery School is a non-profit organization jointly administered by a committee of volunteer parents and the staff. Two teachers hold degrees in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College. The director is responsible for most of the school’s activities, while the Parents’ Committee serves primarily as an advisory board. Two special functions of the Parent Board are the hiring of teachers and control of salaries and school expenses. The school is not a true cooperative since the parents are not required to assist in the class-room on a regular basis. The parents are still a valuable resource to the school in their willingness to assume administrative duties or special projects, and in their interest and support in the school’s program.
|
The Nursery school does not discriminate in providing services to children and families on the basis of race, religion, cultural heritage, national origins, political beliefs, marital status or sexual orientation of parents and disabilities. If we feel we cannot meet the needs of a child in this environment we reserve the privilege of recommending alternatives. All parents should be aware of the availability of the Office for Children, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as a resource for helping children with special needs. The school is licensed by this Office and operates under its standards.
The school maintains a file for each child which includes background information from the parents, medical records, and progress reports or observations by the staff. These records are confidential and no information is released without the written consent of a child’s parent. |

Each parent may request to see his/her child’s records and has the right to delete or amend any information recorded therein. The information on file will be turned over to the parents at the end of the year or kept on file five years.
Twice a year the teachers will hold parent conferences discuss each child’s development. However, discussion of a child’s progress is not limited to these two occasions. A parent may request information from the staff at any time during the year. Parents are encouraged to visit the school as often as they wish.
The school hires a bookkeeper who attends all Board meetings. handles all relevant financial matters and works with the treasurer. The bookkeeper deposits tuition checks and pay salaries, and pays other school related bills. All negotiations are carefully recorded and the books ore always open to any parent for review. |
